Textual Analysis CD cover 3

Here we see the band Paramore represented on their album 'RIOT!'. Like Muse they are represented as an alternative band because their album cover is abstract and there is not an image of the band on the album. Because the album cover is abstract this goes well with the conventions of the alternative genre. Hardly any alternative bands show the band on the front cover, so Paramore's lable 'Fueled by Ramen' will not want to break this conventions because the genre of the band needs to be represented. By looking at this album I get the impression that this album could be chaotic/fast rock music due to constant text saying 'Riot'. The hair colour of lead singer Hayley Williams is also represented on this album cover too, the colour orange.

Here is Paramore's song Misery Business, it is off the Riot album so from watching this we can see that the music on the album is chaotic/fast rock. Whilst watching the video we can see they also promote their album by having a scene where the background looks like the album cover. 

The connotations of this album are to give us the impression that this album will have a lot of attitude. The crazy front cover makes us think that the music on this album will be chaotic and fast like a riot. Because the cover shows attitude it works well with the genre and the type of audience will listen to the CD.

This album belongs to the alternative rock genre. The conventions it follows makes it this genre, for example the way the band are not shown on the front cover of the album, all alternative bands have album covers that don't show the band its alwaus a random image. Another convention would be how wild and energetic the front cover is.

Looking at this album cover I would think that the target audience would be from a teen age and above. The album has a lot of attitude which is something you wouldn't expect anyone younger to associate with.

Paramore belong to an institution called Fuelled By Ramen which is an independent label. Fuelled By Ramen do work with many type of artists but bands been the main type of work. The institution have produced Paramore's image well by showing what they're about on their album cover, attitude and energy.

Because the album is shown in this way it makes Paramore and helps their image and makes them fit into the Alternative Genre.
